DURHAM OFFICE

Whitening

We love to help our patients get a brighter, whiter smile. It’s one of the first things people notice about you. Whether you have one or multiple discolored teeth or want to improve the look of your whole smile, we can help you with a variety of options. Durham Dental Center’s staff specializes in several techniques for teeth whitening, including GLO whitening, ZOOM, and Opalescence GO Whitening.

Guided Light Optics (GLO) Teeth Whitening Gel

Durham Dental Center is a GLO dentist certified to consult our patients on GLO teeth whitening and apply GLO treatments. GLO is a highly effective patented technique for whitening developed by GLO Science and its founder, Dr. Jonathan B. Levine.

GLO works through a special gel that is applied to your teeth. The gel is specially formulated to penetrate teeth and remove stains. It is applied to your teeth, after which a mouthpiece is inserted into your mouth. This piece includes heat resistors and light reflectors, which speed up the whitening process leading to faster results without sensitivity. It is a patented solution that is registered with the FDA.

At Durham Dental Center, we can provide both in-office GLO treatments and provide patients with take-home patient kits. These kits allow you to do GLO treatments on your own and work with the GLO app to schedule your treatments and help you get your desired results faster.

Zoom Whitening

We offer zoom bleaching treatments, a globally used technique for whitening discolored enamel and dentin. This whitening procedure uses a hydrogen peroxide gel that is activated by a special light. The treatment allows hydrogen peroxide to enter your enamel and dentin and bleach the stained parts of your tooth without harming or altering the rest of the tooth structure. The whole process takes less than an hour and typically includes the application of fluoride gel to reduce sensitivity.

Opalescence GO Whitening

Another option for tooth whitening we provide is the Opalescence GO Whitening treatment. Unlike the other techniques above, this option uses trays and chemically activated ingredients, so no LED lights are involved. Treatments are usually under thirty minutes, with best results typically coming after doing two or three treatments.

Opalescence also offers at-home kits of different degrees of strength. We can advise you on the use of these at-home systems as well and answer your questions. The chemicals used also contain fluoride and other chemicals to help reduce tooth sensitivity for the treatment.

What Whitening Technique is Right for Me?

We offer several different kinds of treatments because there is not one whitening answer for everyone. Different methods require different techniques and have additional cost and time implications. Some patients prefer an at-home solution that fits with their lifestyle. Others want something done exclusively in a dental office so they can come and have the treatments applied professionally. And some patients want a little of both, such as an initial in-office treatment with additional at-home kits for follow-up and touch-ups.

It really comes down to you, and the best way to learn what makes sense is to talk to us and let us walk you through the different options.
